Before the baby arrives.

Before the sleep deprivation hits.

Before you are panic Googling things at 2 a.m. while holding a congested newborn.

Trust me on this one.

There are baby items you think you need, and then there are the items you will reach for constantly once real life with a newborn begins. These four fall firmly into the “why didn’t anyone warn me” category.

Add them now. You will thank yourself later.

1. OogieBear Nose Cleaner

When your baby has boogies, how exactly are you supposed to get them out?

This is truly not something that ever crossed my mind until I had a baby with a giant booger blocking their entire nasal passage. Suddenly my newborn couldn’t breathe properly and I was standing there wondering how this became my life.

Enter the OogieBear.

This little boogie getter is something you did not know you needed until you absolutely need it. It is gentle, easy to use, and somehow becomes one of the most-used baby items in your house.

You will grab it far more often than you expect. It solves a problem you never knew existed until you had a baby.

This one is a must.

2. NoseFrida

If you are not a parent yet, the idea of sucking snot out of your child’s nose might sound completely horrifying.

I get it.

But let me paint you a picture.

It is midnight. Your baby is congested. They cannot breathe well enough to sleep. No one in the house is sleeping. Everyone is miserable.

That is when the NoseFrida suddenly becomes your best friend.

It gives immediate relief and actually works when the bulb syringe absolutely does not. Yes, it looks a little weird. Yes, you will question your life choices the first time you use it.

And then your baby breathes again and falls asleep, and you realize you would do anything for this product.

3. Canopy Humidifier

A humidifier in your baby’s room is not optional in my opinion. It helps with dry skin, keeps nasal passages moist, and can reduce upper respiratory irritation, especially during cold and flu season.

According to Canopy:

  • 93 percent noticed a reduction in skin dryness

  • 91 percent felt it promoted effortlessly hydrated skin

  • 87 percent agreed it promoted better sleep

  • 83 percent said it helped ease nasal discomfort

On top of this: Keeping humidity between 40-60% lowers the lifespan and spread of viruses in the air, decreasing your risk of infection.

But here is the real reason we love it.

It is dishwasher safe.

Read that again.

You can put the parts directly into the dishwasher. No moldy corners. No tiny brushes. No guessing whether it is actually clean.

That alone makes it worth it.

  1. Saline Nose Spray

Don’t forget saline spray.

In addition to the Nose Frida, you need to have saline spray on hand. I prefer the spray over drops because it actually reaches up into the sinuses and helps loosen everything before you suction.

Pro tip: use the saline spray in the opposite nostril from the Nose Frida. It helps push everything through and makes the Nose Frida way more effective.

Final Thoughts

These are not the glamorous baby items you see all over Instagram.

No one is making aesthetic nursery reels about boogers and congestion.

But these are the products you will reach for again and again during those early newborn months. They solve real problems, at inconvenient hours, when you are exhausted and just want your baby to be comfortable.

Add them to your registry now.

Future you will be extremely grateful.
